About the Speaker

Dr Pestell studied Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, and Archaeology for his degree at Cambridge and then did a PhD at the University of East Anglia, looking at the foundation and landscape setting of monasteries in East Anglia. He went on to work in field archaeology for several years before becoming Curator of Archaeology at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery where he has looked after the post-Roman collections and maintains an interest in Anglo-Saxon settlement and, in particular, Middle Anglo-Saxon trade and exchange networks and medieval monasteries.
